Weekend Recap | May 25th – May 27th

This past weekend was such as blast for us – the beautiful weather was perfect for the debut of our main stage this weekend! We also had the pleasure of having The Chinese Community Services Association at the night market, for a donation, they will write your name in Chinese Calligraphy!

Here are some pictures from this past weekend:

Shopping | Chinese Community Library Services Association | Stage Performers | Craft | Deep Fried Goodness

Shopping | Chilling | Good Eats

Also, stayed tuned for an announcement that I am very excited to make! Hint: Contest.

What’s New | May 25th – May 27th

Starting today, we will be posting the weather, programming and any new food carts that we will have for the coming weekend! So read on for the latest updates!

The weather this weekend will be sunny, sunny, sunny with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees! That means the perfect time to enjoy some bubble tea while taking a stroll.

Have you ever wondered what Chinese Opera sounded like? Or love dancing to some oldies? Well, we have got you covered this weekend. Our programming this weekend will be as follows:

  • May 26th – Chinatown Opera Night by the Marie Chan Karaoke Center
  • May 27th – Friend’s Singing Night by the O! Friend’s Singing Group

All of a programming will begin at approximately at 7:00 pm and end at 9:30 pm.

And of course, the best for last, FOOD. In addition to the permanent food vendors, we will also be  having a rotation of different food vendors throughout the 2012 season. And for this weekend, we get the joy of having Mr. Tube Steak Hot Dogs , Whistler Wood Fired Pizza and Cartel Taco!

Many Vancouverites will be familiar with Mr. Tube Steak Hot Dogs – they can be easily found in downtown and around the arenas whenever there is an event going on. Once you catch the smell of grilled smokies and onions, it will just lure you in.

Whistler Wood Fired Pizza uses a portable wood fired oven to cook their Neapolitan pizzas (which are made on site); and whenever possible, they use the 100 mile rule for Canadian made products and are sourced from farms. How many people can say that they saw their pizza being cooked in a wood fire oven on the street?!

Cartel Taco is a food cart that specializes in using Korean ingredients in their tacos. Using locally sourced ingredients, you can bet that these tacos will leave you wanting more.  During the day, you can normally find them at Dunsmuir and Hamilton!

We will see YOU this weekend!

Opening Weekend

This past weekend, May 18th to 20th, was the soft opening of the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market and lucky for us, the weather held out for the most part!

Many of your favourites, such as Dim Sum Express and Bubble Gallo Tea House, are back this year with an additional of several new ones! Have you ever wondered what Deep Fried Coke is like? Well, we have it!

But wait! In addition to these food stands, we will also be having a rotation of different food vendors during the course of the summer! Don’t worry, we will give weekly updates, because who knows, your favourite food truck just might be paying us a visit!

And we are also very lucky to have Ms. Kathy Fournier doing Fortune Card Readings, with all proceeds going to the Chinatown Night Market. She is such a sweet lady and the readings are quite accurate!

Atomic Powerbomb

We ain’t kidding when we said there will be fresh young talent performing at the Chinatown Night Market…we present to you:

Atomic Powerbomb

Atomic Powerbomb was born when a group of volunteers at the Chinese Community Policing Centre discovered they each can play a music instrument or two…so what’s the logical progression?  They started jammin’ together, of course.

Kevin, Gagan, Jon, Nelson, Johnny

The band ran into the same problems many garage bands face; finding a suitable place to practice (so you don’t irritate your family and neighbours), finding a suitable time where everyone can get together (busy lives and all), and coming up with songs to play (because there are tons of songs out there, you know…)

But they preservered, and can now rock a great playlist of songs in English and Mandarin.  Original songs are in the works, but for now, they are ready to perform to a wider audience.

We are proud to say the Atomic Powerbomb will be making their first ever public appearance at the Chinatown Night Market on Friday, June 8th.  They’ll take to the main stage at 7:30pm.  Come out and bring your flowers and signs to show your support!  It’s a rock concert after all!

Go…

Atomic…

Powerbomb!
